Scorm provides us with standards that can be used in e-learning. E-learning is essential in every field of life and thus it has its importance in the field of healthcare. Medbotique is providing its guidelines in e learning field of healthcare through technology standards. Its efforts are aimed at providing more patient care via professional competence and collaboration. Standards that contribute towards this project are Advances distributed learning scorm It is a set of standards for online education that makes the interoperability of learning content possible. Scorm aggregates discreet learning units the learning objects using a modular approach to e learning. Learning objects can be used in different context and environment as in online courses, learning management system and support systems. Institute of electrical and electronic engineers learning object metadata This is a place where you can find descriptive information on learning object. The information includes, title, author, description, keywords, educational objective and other relevant information. IEEE reusable competency definitions You can trace the progress of learner against set competencies within a curriculum. Basic structure for aggregating learning object is provided through scorm technical framework and LOM standard guideline. Special requirements in healthcare education include credit information, off label disclosure, level of evidence, and financial relationship and ACGME core competencies. These issues are not addresses via LOM but scorm healthcare addresses these issues extending the LOM standards functions. This is called healthcare LOM profile. Other parts of the scorm are not included in the LOM healthcare as scorm routine environment and scorm navigation and sequencing. Medbotique is working towards finding the definition of competency in healthcare as competency and curriculum standards are not well developed as compared with other standards. This project will be conducted in collaboration with the IEEE learning technology standards committee's reusable competency definition working group. National library of medicine will be funding this project.
